The catfish is a mighty species that have been sought after throughout history. More and more anglers are joining in and seeking out the catfish. This is partly because they are discovering that the catfish can give you quite a challenge.

You know when you”ve went up against one of these fish and that makes fishing fun and exciting. Another reason is because many people simply love the great taste the catfish provides.

When it comes to catfishing, the right tackle is a must. If you don”t have the right tackle you”ll end up coming home emptied handed. There is a wide variety of different tackle used for catfish fishing and what you use will mainly depend on which particular species of cat you”re seeking out. First of all, you need to realize that the catfish is a very aggressive species. This means that they don”t play around. They will strike your line hard and put up an incredible fight when you”re trying to reel them in. Even the smaller size fish can put up an amazing fight.

If your gear is weak, it will normally end up breaking and you”ll lose your catch and often, part of your equipment. This is one of the biggest reasons why many anglers go home empty handed. They simply don”t have the right gear for the type of fishing they”re trying to do. Don”t let your next catch get away, use the tips listed below to help you make good decisions and choose the right tackle for the job at hand.

Tips for choosing the right catfish tackle:

Determine which species of catfish you plan to seek out. You will need different gear for each one so it’’s important to know what kind of catfish you want to reel in.

Estimate the size of the catfish in the body of water where you plan to fish. This can be a little difficult but you can talk to the locals or use fishing reports to help get an idea if you”re unfamiliar with the area.

Choose your tackle based on the size and type of catfish you”re seeking out. If you want to go for the big boys, use heavy duty tackle.

Don”t skimp on the fishing line. Many catfish have gotten away because the fishing line snapped into. Use good quality line and match the weight to the rest of the gear that you”ll be using.

Use heavier equipment when fishing around trees, rocks, ledges and other structures. This helps to prevent you from losing much of your gear when it gets hung up or tangled on something.

Florida is one of the favourite places for the majority of bass fishing enthusiasts to head to whenever they feel like scouring new waters for bigger and better bass.

By Daniel Eggertsen

Florida is one of the favourite places for the majority of bass fishing enthusiasts to head to whenever they feel like scouring new waters for bigger and better bass.

In fact, Florida is one of the favourite haunts of numerous individuals that love a spot of bass fishing, with Lake Toho coming high up on the list of favourite waters.

Lake Toho, short for Lake Tohopekaliga, is located in the Everglades and is well known for its bass fishing action, with some of the biggest and best bass available as well as fantastic populations.

According to some reputable sources, there are more bass over the weight of 10lbs to be found here than at any other lake in the world, which makes it the ideal lake for those looking for trophy bass in Florida.

Lake Toho is actually in Kissimmee, Central Florida, which is near to Disney so it does get busy there all year round. However the 22,700 acre lake is beautiful from a human and a bass perspective.

All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the action but the following three secrets may help you to get a head start in terms of your catch rate and up your enjoyment rate as well.

Lake Toho is a shallow lake and this should be at the forefront of your mind when it comes to fishing there. This is a major point because many people make the mistake of fishing with the wrong lures at Lake Toho.

Spinner baits, crank baits and plastic worms work wonders in these waters but the spoons that should be used for deep waters do not work well there. As such, you need to make sure that you are equipped for fishing in the shallows. You should also make sure that you get a good idea of how the bass move from the extreme shallows to water that is a little deeper in the hottest hours of the day so that you are fully able to follow them.

Always show a degree of flexibility when it comes to fishing in Lake Toho. Bass are by no means habitual creatures. They do not move in the same patterns every day and do not congregate in the same areas every day. They do what they please, much like we do.

As such, they are not predictable in the slightest and you need to maintain a degree of flexibility. You need to be able to change baits and lures quickly and easily if one is not working. For example, you may be using a plastic worm and find that it works one day but not the next.

Have you decided that you want to take your bass fishing to the next level? Are you not content with just going on the weekends with your friends to catch a few bass? Maybe it’’s time that you look into competing in tournaments. If this is something you”re serious about you”ll need to take certain measure to ensure that you stand a chance at winning.

While winning a tournament isn”t all about skill and stamina it certainly helps to have both. Luck is a major factor when it comes to fishing for the largest bass in a tournament.

No matter how good you think you are, you can”t account for how the bass will react that day. Someone who’’s been fishing for less time than you could catch a larger fish. While nothing can be done about the luck factor there is plenty that can be done when it comes to preparing to catch the biggest fish.

Preparing for Competitions
As mentioned before, stamina and skill will be major factors when it comes to winning a tournament. You need to have patience and not force the fish to hook for you. Keeping calm and steady hand will ensure that you won”t make simple mistakes that will cause you to lose a fish once you have one interested.

Tournaments can take place at all hours of the night or day. Some will got for more than one day at a time while others will only be a few hours. Having a good amount of stamina to stay focused will keep you above the game. This is very important as being distracted can cause you to lose a fish very quickly.

Another thing you need to consider is where you will be fishing. Even if you”ve never been fishing in the spot that you”ll be competing, you need to know the lay of the land.

It’’s recommended that you fish the location at least once, even if it’’s not the direct location where the tournament will take place. Fishing in the general area will give you an idea of how the fish react to you and your bait.

Studying the natural surroundings either first hand or by map will also be extremely useful. Depending on where you”re fishing, you”ll want to know what different structures are in the area. Bass love to hide in and around man-made and natural structures. This is why knowing where they are, is vital since there could be any number of fish near it.

By Daniel Eggertsen

Bass fishing enthusiasts always feel comfortable with their local waters. They can head out there with their regular tackle and enjoy the action day after day. This is obviously because they know the waters well, know the habits of the bass and fully understand how they can catch fish.

However, imagine that you are heading to a new area, and an area in which you have never actually fished before. Imagine that the lake you choose to fish at is wholly unfamiliar. How would you hope to catch bass? Well, that is what bass fishing guides are for.

You will definitely need one if you head to Florida. Florida bass fishing guides can contribute an awful lot to bass fishing enthusiasts” catch rates if they have never been to an area before, and even sometimes if they have.

Florida bass fishing guides are incredibly knowledgeable about their local areas. In fact, most of them know the waters better than the back of their hands. They are professionals and many have been in business for some years.

However, as with anything related to bass fishing, you have to be able to choose the right ones for you. After all, the Florida bass fishing guide that you choose could have a profound effect on your experience in the state waters, so how do you choose the right one? Well, the information below may help you with that one!

Look at his or her own record and credentials – Any professional bass fishing guide should be able to lead by example in every single way. Not only should they know all about the local waters but they should also be fully able to demonstrate the relevant skills you need to be able to catch bass in Florida.

You should look at their competition record and see just how many bass they have caught and what sort of reputation they have in the industry. The bass fishing guide that you choose should be easy to look up. Be very aware that a guide that can barely be found on the Internet may not actually be legitimate.

There are Florida bass fishing guides that are in it to make money but know nothing about bass so beware of them. Find out everything you can about the guide before handing over cash.

Look for experience – The more experience a guide has the better. Good Florida bass fishing guide services have years of experience, whether via their own business or working for someone else so check out how much they know and how many people they have taken around the Everglades, lakes and pools previously.

Knowing the basics of bass fishing is good for anyone who''s just starting out and veteran anglers who are looking to brush up on their skills. You are never too young or two old to learn to fish for bass.

By Daniel Eggertsen

Over the years bass fishing has become more popular. So much more popular that people want to know as much as they can about the subject so they”re better prepared. Knowing the basics of bass fishing is good for anyone who’’s just starting out and veteran anglers who are looking to brush up on their skills. You are never too young or two old to learn to fish for bass.

While there are plenty of things that you will pick up on the more you fish for bass, there is some common ground that you”ll find early on in your fishing experience. Knowing a few basic things can keep you from making common mistakes and ultimately give you a much more enjoyable experience.

If you”re interested in bass fishing you”ll want to read up on some of these basic tips that will have you going in no time at all. It doesn”t matter if you”re just looking to go out with a few friends on a Saturday to catch some fish or you”ve entered a tournament hoping to catch a monster. When you know the simple things about fishing for bass the more complex things become a lot easier.

Names of Bass
Depending on where you are will determine what type of bass you”re going to try to catch. There are many different types of bass in the world and they come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Some of the most common bass are:
Largemouth bass
Smallmouth bass
Striped bass
Spotted bass
Sea bass

These are just a few of the most common bass in the world. There are also many different families and classes of these fish. Depending on the part of the world you”re from will also depend on what nicknames certain bass will have. Some bass will be referred to as something different depending on the part of the world you”re in.

Regardless of what you call bass, they are creatures that can be studied and watched. Bass of all kinds have similar features and habits that are common among all types. This is especially useful information when you are going to go out fishing. Knowing how the fish acts is just as important as knowing where to find it at.

Bass Habitats
When you are going to go fish for bass you need to understand how and where they live at. While you can find bass in rivers and streams, you”re much more likely to find them in lakes and ponds. They prefer to have structure to hide in that’’s either man-made or natural. Dams are a good spot to find bass because of the way the water flows from it and that it turns up the bottom of the water. This makes a great place for bass to hunt for food since things are constantly moving by.

By Daniel Eggertsen

Here are three family favorite crappie recipes that you can make in a matter of minutes for preparation time. They are very tasty and will always delight the family. Instead of Friday night fish fries at the local restaurants or taverns, you can stay home and make your own fish dinner.

Casserole Crappie Delight

This is a delightful casserole that can be prepared in a matter of ten minutes and ready to eat in forty-five minutes.

Crappie fillets
Bottle of Italian salad dressing
Potato chips
Mild cheddar cheese shredded
Diced onion
Salt and Pepper

Wash the crappie fillets and place them in a single layer in a casserole dish. Add pepper and salt to season. Use the Italian salad dressing to pour over the fish. Add the diced onion to each piece of fish. Caution: Do not over do it with the onion.

Crush the potato chips and sprinkle over the fish in a thin layer. Cover the casserole with a cover or tin foil and bake at 400 degrees for thirty minutes. After the fish has baked for thirty minutes, remove from the oven and sprinkle the mild cheddar cheese over the top. A thin layer will work great.

Place back in the oven uncovered and bake until the cheese is melted.

Crappie Crisp Fish Fry

This recipe makes a difference when you are looking for a recipe to make your own batter for an enjoyable fish fry. It is easy to make and within no time, the fish is ready for the table.

Cut about twenty crappie filets into two-inch pieces. Place them in a bowl of water and add some ice. Place in the refrigerator while you prepare the batter. Turn on the deep-fryer and get it hot while preparing the batter.

Buy a fish batter from your local grocer or use Tempura Fish Batter if you can find it.

Add to the batter:

1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp soy sauce (if you have it)
1/4 tsp lemon juice (if you have it)
Salt and Pepper

Follow the directions on the batter and add ice-cold water. Mix up the ingredients until the batter is just thick enough to coat each fish without dripping off.

Grab the fish from the refrigerator and dry with a paper towel. Dip into the batter and then place into the deep fryer. Only put about five pieces in at a time if using a home deep fryer. It takes only about three minutes a batch to deep fry. Then remove and continue until all of the fish are done and ready to serve.

Crappie ala Stir Fry

Two pounds of crappie filets cut into small chunks
Two c broccoli
One sliced onion
Two cups mushrooms sliced
One green pepper sliced
1/4 teaspoon garlic
1/4 teaspoon Old Bay
1/2 teaspoon Seasoning Salt
Salt and Pepper
Olive oil
Rice

Cook the rice and set aside.

Pour olive oil into a wok or a frying pan. Heat oil and add broccoli, onion, mushrooms and green pepper. Saute until golden and soft. Add the filets and the seasonings and stir. This should cook for ten minutes with frequent stirring.
Serve over the already prepared rice.

There are many people that enjoy going fly fishing. Of course, fly fishing is going to take some practice. It’’s a top growing sport out there today. In reality, it is pretty simple to go out and successfully go fly fishing, but there are definitely some things that you will need to remember in order to be successful at it. If you are looking for some good fly fishing tips that will help you to improve your fly fishing, then here are some important tips that will help anglers to improve their skills and start bringing in more fish when they go out on a fishing trip.

Choose the Right Rod
Choosing the right rod is so essential for this type of fishing. Without the right rod, you are not going to be very successful. Of course, there are many different types of rods that you can choose from today. Which one is going to be right for you? Well for those who are just getting started, usually it is best to go with hollow glass for the material of the rod. This doesn”t take as much care as other types of rods, such as bamboo. Even if you don”t carefully handle it, it still will hold up nicely, so it is definitely a great rod to get started with. Later if you want to you can upgrade your rod to something like bamboo if you want to.

The Importance of Good Line
Good line is also very important if you want to successfully go fly fishing. If you don”t have the right line for your rod, you are not going to be very successful. While the rod is important for casting, you will find that the right line is also very important and can affect the way that you cast as well. Many people end up going with line that is too light. It is important that you have line that is heavy enough so that you can smoothly and efficiently cast out your line. One of the best choices for line today is a GBF 3-diameter line, a C level line, or what is known as an double taper HCH line. These are great choices that work well with the common hollow glass rods.

Get Down the Right Casting Technique
The final fly fishing tip is to practice on getting down the right casting technique when you go out there fishing. While having the right rod and line is important, you also are going to have to work on technique. The rod and line won”t do all the work for you. Remember that you need to cast out straight. You don”t want to jerk the line when you are casting. It all needs to focus on being very smooth. You can do this by keeping your body relaxed when you do the casting. If you are tense, then you will ruin the cast. Of course, it will take some practice to get it right, but the more you practice your casting technique, the better you are going to get.

There is nothing like kicking back and enjoying a great time fishing. Of course, there are different types of fishing. If you are used to fishing in a lake or a pond, you will find that river fishing is a whole different ball game. This means you are going to have to learn a few different techniques if you want to be successful when you are river fishing. Here is a look at some important things you need to know when it comes to fishing in a river.

First of all, you need to know the right time to go out river fishing. You need to base your times on the moon as well as the weather. When the moon is full, the waters in a river are at their highest levels, but they are low when the moon is only a small sliver. There is more water for the fish to swim in when the moon happens to be full and the river is higher. Around the full moon is a great time to go fishing, and you”ll probably have better luck during this time.

When fishing in rivers, it is important that your bait looks real. Of course when you choose your bait, you will want to consider the type of fish you are hoping to catch. There are many live bait and lure options that you can use in the river. Live worms work well on a gang hook, since they will make the worm look real because of the current of the river. It’’s not as easy to use certain lures in the rivers if you can”t make them look real to the fish.

Choosing the right area of to partake in river fishing is important as well. You may want to go to a part where the current breaks against a log, rocks, or piles of grass. This is known as a seam and there are usually a lot of fish in the area. This will be the best place to catch some fish.

Casting and working your bait the right way is important when you are river fishing. If you are going to cast upstream, then you should allow the bait to flow downstream until you finally have too much slack in the line. Then you can reel in and cast out again. Casting down into the current is a bit different. You should slowly reel in, trying to give the bait or lure the look of swimming upstream in the river.

The right rod will also be important for river fishing as well. The size and the weight are going to be important, and to choose the right rod, consider the fish you want to fish for in the river. If you want to go with larger fish from the river, make sure you go with a strong rod that can handle the size of fish that you want to catch. This way you don”t end up losing your fish because the rod breaks on you.

It''s the dream of many an angler: the thrill of an Alaska fishing trip. Whether it''s once in a lifetime or a regular occurrence, nothing beats its adventure for devoted fishermen.

It’’s the dream of many an angler: the thrill of an Alaska fishing trip. Whether it’’s once in a lifetime or a regular occurrence, nothing beats its adventure for devoted fishermen.

If you want to ensure the greatest Alaska fishing trip ever, hire a local fishing guide. A guide can take you to the best spots, as well as knowing local fishing regulations, available services and sights.

The first step to planning a trip is to choose a species for fishing. Many anglers go for Alaska’’s great salmon, but fishing for some of the incredibly big halibut is another saltwater thrill. Freshwater fishermen will enjoy hooking into Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead, Grayling and many others in rivers and streams.

Choosing your species will determine which Alaska region you”ll visit. The state has five geographical areas: Southeast, Southcentral, Western, Arctic and Interior. Sometimes the western regions are grouped together. Here’’s what each is like:

Southeast Alaska. If you”re looking for rushing streams, glaciers and fjords, this is your spot. Seasons are tempered by the Pacific Ocean, with cool, moist summers and snowy winters. Fish here for salmon, halibut and trout.

Southcentral Alaska boasts some of the state’’s most well-known fishing spots, such as the Kenai River where the salmon roam. You can drop lines here also for halibut off the coasts and for Pike, Trout and Grayling in the streams.

The Arctic, Western Alaska and Interior regions differ greatly from the southern areas. The Arctic and Western areas are treeless plains, while forests blanket the Interior. The Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers are known for their salmon, while Grayling tops the freshwater species that include Pike, Char, Trout and Burbot.

After choosing your species and region, use these guidelines for selecting a guide for your Alaska fishing trip.

1. Get references from at least two of the guide’’s previous clients. If you find they weren”t completely happy with the guide’’s performance, move on to another prospect.

2. Get a timeline for the trip, including boat travel time and fishing time. Half a day’’s trip is quickly expended if a long boat ride cuts into valuable fishing time.

3. Guides” prices vary significantly, and usually for a reason. In this instance, the low bid is probably not your best choice.

4. Find out the guide’’s length of experience with fishing in Alaska, where the fishing runs in cycles of about seven years. The more your guide’’s experience, the more likely you are to catch The Big One.

5. Get a full picture of what you”re getting for your money. Ask the guide to list everything, including things like tackle, rain gear, food and water, etc.

6. Ask all your questions before you set out. It’’s too late to inquire about bait once you”re on the water.

Above all, start planning and scheduling your Alaska fishing trip as soon as possible. Because of the short fishing season, some experience anglers book their outings as much as a year in advance so they don”t miss out on their favorite guides!
