Buying The Perfect Domain Name For Your Company
By Walt Jipner
The whole world and his dog are heading online these days and finding the right domain name for your company is more important than ever. People expect any established company to have an online presence and if you don”t pick your web address carefully, you could miss out on lots of online opportunities, or worse still confuse customers. Back in the day it was easy enough to acquire the dream domain name of your choice. Nowadays however, with all the cyber squatting going on, good domains are hard to come by, and you might even find that your business name itself has been taken. If you are willing to search around and maybe pay a bit of money to get the domain of your choice you can still get a good one though. Here are 3 of the top most important things to look for in a business domain name.
Catchy. You need to remember that your domain name might be appearing on business cards, posters, mugs, pens, and a whole host of other places. With this in mind it needs to be memorable and ideally kept as short as possible. There is no point purchasing the domain name www.webuyandsellnewcarsatgreatprices.com when something much more concise will do. Ideally you want to go for something that will stick in people”s minds and be short enough for them to remember, without being confusing and obtuse for the sake of it.
Self Explanatory. There will be a great deal of businesses that are able to purchase their own brand names for their URLs. However, this is not necessarily the best options as domain names can often be enhanced by adding some more descriptive words to it. If you imagine a design company called ”Kittlemore” for example. This company could be much better off buying a domain such as www.kittlemoredesign.com or www.kittlemoredesigncompany.com, rather than just www.kittlemore.com. A domain that does what it says on the tin is much more likely to attract visitors than one that offers no explanation about what can be found on the site.
Cheap. Every domain name has its price and sometimes people are willing to fork out for the URL of their dreams. There are a number of benefits to buying old domain names, such as existing ”domain age”, a factor that search engines look at when ranking sites. However, it is often much easier and cost effective to buy a new domain name and build the power up yourself. This way you don”t have to worry about getting into a bidding war for the domain or trying to remove links that other people have pointing to the old site. With this is mind you might have to add hyphens, numbers or slang to a domain name to get one that suits your company needs.
