A Guide To Menomonie River Bass Fishing

By Daniel Eggertsen

Bass fishing is one of America”s favorite pastimes and one of the best places to go bass fishing is the Menomonie River. This river has a lot to offer the angler because the environment is perfect for bass to live and grow. There are many places where the bass will be located throughout the river and where you can enjoy a wonderful day relaxing and reeling in the bass.

The Menomonie River is located in Wisconsin. In fact, it is the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The Menomonie River is a very large body of water but there are places where the fisherman can wade around in the river to bass fish if they so desire.

Fishing in a river is a little different than fishing in a lake or pond. For instance, there is normally a strong current through the center of the river. This tends to steer the bass more towards the shoreline and other shallow areas where they don”t have to fight the current. The bass in the Menomonie River feed very aggressively making every fishing trip exciting and challenging.

Where to Go Fishing

The upper ends of the impoundments are a great place to find smallmouth bass. You will find a long stretch of free flowing water located just below the Kimberly Clark Dam. Whitewater rapids are located at Piers Gorge and you will find some very exciting fishing going on in this area. Anglers love the challenge of reeling in the bass when they are swimming in the fast moving water found in parts of this river. It greatly increases the challenge.

When smallmouth bass are on the agenda you will want to fish between the Chalk Hill Flowage and the Sturgeon Falls Dam. You will find numerous smallmouth bass in this section of the river. Some parts located in this area are even shallow enough to wade in while fishing. Below the White Rapids Dam is another excellent place for the smallmouth bass. In the spring the bass will move out of the Green Bay area and over into the lower river where you will find them in large numbers.

Even if you are new to bass fishing on the Menomonie River and are unfamiliar with the area, don”t worry. There are a few basic steps that you can follow that will help you locate the bass. Start by searching for structures throughout the water. This is where the bass will be hanging out in search of food. If there are trees in the water, brush piles or grassy areas the bass will be nearby. They also lurk around rocks, ledges and any other type of structure where they can ambush their prey.

The use of electronic tools will help you find the bass much faster and easier. You can use the depth finder to locate underwater structures where the bass will be lurking around. An area where there are breaks in the current is usually also a great place to fish for bass on this river.
